I wanted more than anything to get a shot of Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins on the street I ride so often — Berkshire in La Canada. The Amgen Tour of California descended Angeles Crest Highway and headed east on Berkshire to the stage finish in Pasadena. My husband and I set up lawn chairs on the shoulder and waited half an hour for the riders to speed by. I was so excited when Wiggins appeared that I missed a clear shot, but at least got him in focus with teammate Danny Pate (see middle photo). Here are a couple of other shots I liked. I only had one chance to shoot the riders — they were gone in a second.
Here are some of my favorites from last weekend’s Turkey Trot cyclocross race at Verdugo Park in Glendale.

The Midnight Drag Race is an annual event put on by the Wolfpack Hustle folks. This was its biggest year ever, held on the 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles, which soon will be torn down.

The Paralympics Track Cycling World Championships was the first time I’d ever shot an international competition. It was exciting to see top athletes from around the world coming to our local velodrome to compete and set world records.

Here are some of my favorite photos of pain and determination from last year. Many are from Elite Track Nationals at the Home Depot Center Velodrome, where the intensity was amped up more than any other race of the season. Other photos are from Master’s States in San Diego, LAVRA and juniors races at the HDC Velodrome, and the Encino Velodrome.
This is a short video of a Keirin race Saturday at the Encino Velodrome. The clips at the beginning and end are mine. The on-bike footage is courtesy of Aram Goganian of Predator Cycling, who put a camera on Tim McGee’s bike. Tim won the race, and you can see him in the freeze frame at the end.
